Microsoft Surface 2 Release and Review

Monday, September 23, Microsoft announced their latest release for the tablet realm: Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2.

The new Surface is supposed to be "Leaner. Meaner". What does that mean? Let's take a look and see what's new with the Surface 2.

Built-in Kickstand is Adjustable

The new kickstand allows you to adjust the angle for easier viewing depending on your position.

Better Battery Life

The new Surface 2 comes with a better battery that gives you 25% more increasing it to 10 hours of run time.

Improved Performance with new CPU

To improve performance and speed, Microsoft upgraded the CPU to the nVidia Tegra 4.

USB 3.0

Added to the chassis is now USB 3.0 which will greatly improve speed of transfers. That is, if you have a USB 3.0 compatible device to plug into it! Don't worry too much because USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 devices.

Conclusion

Overall, the new Surface 2 looks like it will be a hot item for the upcoming holidays (Christmas 2013). I think that for a tablet, this will be an awesome gift for anyone with deep technical knowledge or a tech newbie (grandma & grandpa?). I might even have to pick one up for myself because for the portability that it gives you, and the compatibility with other Windows products you just can't beat it!
